Stunning Stanage Sunset

When the summer evenings are long and light in the Peaks, we like to get out onto a ridge and enjoy the golden hour's warm colour and soft tones. Stanage Edge is only 20 minutes away from Catherine Cottage and gives you massive views along the Derwent Valley where quite often the mist rises from the river as the sun sets. If you fancy a drink or a meal beforehand (or afterwards) then Hathersage is close by with several excellent pubs and cafes. The village and surrounds are the backdrop to Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, and the ridge is the location for a stunning scene in the 2005 film where Keira Knightly (Elizabeth) stands right on the edge with her dress billowing dramatically in the wind.
