Brown Hares

If you take a walk up PennyUnk Lane (accessible at the top of the village) be sure to keep a look out for Brown Hares in the fields on either side of the path, particularly as you approach Monsal Head. Hares have fantastic eyesight and hearing but if you wear muted colours, keep the noise down and are lucky with the wind direction, you have a good chance of spotting them. In the Spring in particular you can often see groups of them boxing or even just racing across the fields and leaping the walls.
